Radio Show Final Reflection

It was one of great but difficult projects for this week. Out “Vixen’s Ventures” radio show was on the air on Tuesday. I was kind of embarrassed to hear my voice but it was fun and rememberable experience. While I hear the radio show, one thing I really did not like was the acting voice of mine. Since I heard others’ their the acting seems really great and sometimes I felt like they were real actors/actresses. So I if I had a one more chance, I would practice the script more to reduce the awkwardness of my voice.

Also, I really liked that I can see the others’ thoughts lively on twitter. Before Tuesday, I was the one who commenting on others’ works but reversing experience was the experience that I never had before. As I do this project, I really enjoyed creating a factors of the radio show, such as bumper, commercial, and logo. I really enjoy listening to radio show, but I never thought of each factor carefully. To create only 20 minutes radio show, each factor could not be missed and the story could not be stopped it had to be flow smoothly. It was really enjoyable to go through the process of putting individual factor together to create a whole show. Combining parts together create the whole.

It was really enjoyable process but difficult process too. I edited Act I and II. To edit this parts, I used Audacity. Since our team members met together and went through whole script together, I had to delete the mistakes and the several takes that we had gone to make choice to choose. I thought it would takes less than an hour, but it took be quite while. But the good thing was that I’ve been using Audacity for a long time, so there wasn’t any obstacle while I was going through.

The advices that I would give to future ds106 students are that if you practice a script several times, you would be a great actor/actress so your radio show would be much professional.  Also, the background music and the sound effects would grab listeners’ attentions so choose a effective music. And put some time, longer you put time into would make a better radio show but it would not be painful, it would be great, fun, and interesting experience you never had before.

DS106 Radio Show Reflection II

On Tuesday, I listed to the ds106 radio show called ‘Get a Clue.’ The radio show poster I saw weeks ago was so affective so I still remember and really wanted to listen to the show. The format of the show was really unique and professional. It was a flashback format so the listeners were able to hear each character’s perspective. And one thing I really liked was each character had different background music for their monologue, which helped me to differentiate. Beside the different music background for each character, they have really effective sound effects which can grab listeners’ attentions and make the story line to be more dramatic.

During the break, they had unique bumper, which was an acapella radio bumper. Among the radio show I listened before, it was first time that I hear this style of the bumper. The music was soft and calm but the effectiveness was really strong and made me to concentrate to rest of the show.

It was really great experience to hear how other classmates did and what they did. These days, I kept thinking that I am stereotyped, but need to get out of the box the think bigger, deeper and different. By listening to others’ works and receiving various ideas, it would help me to break my own frame. Even though the ds106 radio ends this Thursday, I will keep looking classmates’ posts and make my thoughts wide and deep.

DS106 Radio Show Listen Along II

This week is last week of radio show. I wonder what I’m going to do at 9 o’clock without listening to ds106 radio. As same as last week, I participated on live twitter on Monday because I would probably won’t make it on Wednesday and Thursday radio shows. The radio show I listened was called ‘Inside Talking.’ When I see this title, I immediately remembered one of the logos I saw last week, when I looked through classmates works. It was talk show format and they used audience sound effect to give more reality to it. And I think they were succeed with it.

Here are the feedbacks I made during the radio show.

DS106 Radio Show Reflection

First radio show I listened was House of Noir on Monday. Since it was right after Spring Break, I could not concentrate to any other class. I turned on ds106 radio at 9 o’clock and tried to concentrate to the radio show. To be honest, I do not remember exact story of the radio show, but I definitely remember the commercials they put into the radio. The first commercial was airlines commercial. The background of the commercial and the voice of the maker mixed well. Also they put heartbeats sound as background so listeners made nervous. They used effective background sounds so they can make listeners to be more focus on the radio show and gave strong emotion through the sounds they put in as background. Lastly, I was really shocked about they put the phone numbers into a commercial. I’m pretty sure it is a fake numbers, but I never thought about putting phone number when I was making my commercial.

I’m kind of sensitive to the sounds, so I still remember some of the sounds from House of Noir. They were success with using sound effects.

DS 106 Radio Listen Along

On Monday, I listened to ‘Noir We There Yet?’ and I participated on live twitter and shared feedback during the radio show.

It was really nice to hear how other classmate’s radio show. After I listened to first radio show, which was ‘House of Noir,’ I just kept listening and shared my thoughts on twitter. The one thing I still remember is that the McDonald commercial. The actors were really good at the acting and the vintage background music captured my mind. The combination of these two were really impactive. Since it was right after the spring break, there weren’t many participants, so I was able to focus on the radio show and did not have to share the focus on to the feedbacks on twitter. It was really great experiment, I can’t wait to hear the rest of the radio show on next week!

Radio Show Progress #2

After we had meet on Saturday, we decided to meet on this Thursday to record our voice. But campus was closed for snow day! I was so happy for cancellation of classes, but I worried for the recording because we was going to meet in ITCC. But luckily, ITCC was able to open with our ID card. So we meet in the ITCC and record our voiced based on the script that Lesya wrote. The story was perfect and funny. We used Audacity to keep track of our voice. We read script several time so we can get the voice that we like. After finishing recording, we decided to divide editing parts. Leanna and I are going to edit the recorded voice in order and Lesya is going to change pitch and get rid of the noisy sound. After that, Amy is going to put background music, bumper, and commercial! And after this all process, our radio show is complete!

Everything went pretty well, there was any problem or difficult thing that interrupt our radio show. I was really worried about this, but I was blessed with meeting Amy, Lesya and Leanna and becoming a group with them. I can’t wait to hear other group’s radio! I would be really fun! :)

Radio Show Progress

This week and next week, we have to create a radio show for ds106 radio. This week is to form a group and plan for it. To find a group member, I went on Twitter and searching for a group to join in. remembered that my roommate told me that her friend, Amy Elizabeth is taking this course, too, so I asked her for join in her group. Thankfully, Amy and group members, Leanna Epps and Lesya Melnychenko led me get into group and now I’m part of the group called ‘The Alpacas.’ Before we meet, we communicate on Twitter and share the ideas that we have and some promo that we should include. After we shared basic idea we tried to find the best time to meet and talk about details, like plot, script, sounds, commercials, etc. Then we decided to meet on Saturday afternoon. During the meeting, we used gmail ‘Invitation to edit’ to share and write together on the same page, so everyone has same informations. Our focus was on the noir characters and create the story based on the informations about them. After we completed the plot, we divided the role. Lesya has most of the idea for plot and Amy is good at writing so they are going to write a script for radio show. Leanna and I got to choose dramatic background musics and make commercials. To create the music, we are going to use Audacity since we have been using it for couple of weeks and choose musics mostly from ‘free sound’ or youtube. Since we just gather some ideas, everything went smoothly and had nothing difficult. But I’m kind of worry about next week. We have to record and edit it so difficult parts have not come yet. Hopefully everything would go smoothly as this week.

Radio Show Promo

This week is to working on producing a radio show. So, I had to make poster/bumper, sticker/logo, etc. Since I made a bumper in the past when we were working on audio assignments, so I made logo for s106 radio.

radio logoI used Adobe Photoshop to create this logo. On the white background, I typed ‘ds106 radio’ and make effect on them. Instead of just horizontal line, I changed to wave shape text, so it looks like the sound is coming out from radio. I put the antenna with radio waves are coming out of it above the text, so it kinds of look like radio. I thought that the logo has to be simple and readable, so I tried to put together simple as I can.
